Food Sovereignty Symposium (September 23-24 from 10 am to 3 pm).   (Symposium sessions will be available via a live Facebook feed.) 

Friday, September 23 from 10 am to 3 pm  The first day of the symposium focuses on the central role of food in traditional daily life. Speakers explore the beauty and familial depth of food production, gathering and preparation from the late 1800s to the present time. 10 am:  “Early Memories of Food and Family,” Tessie Naranjo (Santa Clara) 11 am:  “Hunting in Our Home Communities,” Allen Duran (Tesuque), Tito Naranjo (Santa Clara) 12 pm: 1 ½ hour break 1:30 pm:  “Traditional Farming and Ranching,” Gailey Morgan (Tesuque), Danny Sam (Picuris Pueblo) 3 pm:  Closing Remarks  

Saturday, September 24 from 10 am to 3 pm The second day of the symposium focuses on community based traditional foods initiatives in New Mexico.   10 am:  “Seed Bank Program,” Gailey Morgan and Roxanne Swentzell (Santa Clara) 11 am:   “Native Youth and Traditional Foods,” Marie Reyna (Taos) 12 pm: 1 ½ hour break 1:30 pm: “Ranching Among New Mexico Tribes: Bison, Cattle and Sheep,” Richard Archuleta (Taos), Andrew Gonzales (Nambe) 3 pm:  Closing Remarks  

Food Sovereignty Symposium  Date:Friday, September 23 from 10am to 3pm,  Saturday, September 24 from 10am to 3pm Location: Kathryn O’Keeffe Theater, Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe, N.M. Cost:                   Free with Museum Admission, limited seating.
